When Digital Underground recorded Who Got the Gravy? in 1998, its challenge was to acknowledge late-1990s rap tastes without being unfaithful to its history. And the Bay Area group pulls it off nicely on this album. Though not quite in a class with Sex Packets, Gravy was among the strongest rap releases of 1998. Underground was still greatly influenced by George Clinton's P-Funk, and the quirky rapping of Shock G and Humpty Hump leaves no doubt that this is a Digital Underground release.

Gregory Jacobs, known professionally as Shock G (and his alter ego Humpty Hump), is an American musician, rapper, and lead vocalist for the hip hop group Digital Underground. He is responsible for Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance", 2Pac's breakthrough single "I Get Around", and co-producer of 2Pac's debut album 2Pacalypse Now. Jacobs spent most of his childhood moving around the East Coast with his family, eventually settling in Tampa, Florida.

Who Got the Gravy? is the fifth album by rap group, Digital Underground, which reached on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Guests included east coasters Big Pun, Biz Markie and KRS-One; west coast newcomers Esinchill and female emcee Mystic; and introduced yet another Shock G character, "Peanut Hakeem Anafu Washington". I Shall Return (Intro)" (With KRS-One). Wind Me Up" (With Esinchill). The Mission" (With Big Pun). The Odd Couple" (With Biz Markie).
