LORD ROCHESTER - Shetland Sessions by Lord Rochester, released 03 June 2016 1. A1. Up Helly Aa 2. A2. 2020 Vision 3. B1. Monkey's Fist 4. B2. Papa Deadly The Shetland Islands are located 100 miles from Scotlands rugged north coast. Famous for its unforgiving seas and dangerous rocks it also has extremes of days and nights where some days there is only sun and other days just the moon. To cross the seas there are two options, a perilous flight in a threadbare two propeller airplane, with no guarantee of a successful landing or twelve hours on the heaving ferry, lashed by wind and battered.

Scotland's top Rock n' Roll Combo, Lord Rochester, will be having their debut Shetland Folk Festival appearance at the Festival Club this year. In keeping with great Rock & Roll, Lord Rochester embrace the simplicity of sound and song using the maraca powered shuffle of artists such as Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed and Lonnie Mack to create great stripped back driven rock and roll.

When I visited Shetland in 1985, sessions in The Lounge - Lerwick’s trad bar of long standing, sessions ritualistically ended with a playing of Kate Dalrymple - a lowland Scottish standard. Otherwise, I remember star fiddler Debbie Scott playing jazz violin to "Peerie Willie" Johnson’s famous swing backing - on guitar, or piano, or both. I can’t name the Shetland tunes played; Irish tunes featured, for the good reason there was an Irish player there. There were lots of fiddlers and guitarists up there. According to Aly Bain (in an on-line interview text) Shetland.
Sessions was a compilation album by the Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1984 but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished but unreleased Beatles songs. A planned single containing two of the tracks from Sessions – "Leave My Kitten Alone", backed with an alternative version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" – was also left unissued. The idea was resurrected in 1995 as The Beatles Anthology.
