Brighton's the Go! Team show signs of evolution on album as their stylistic range broadens ever so slightly. From the outset, Rolling Blackouts provides little relief: opener ". O" announces itself with all the subtlety of an air-raid siren, as lead MC Ninja wages a losing battle against a torrential blitzkrieg of horn breaks and scratch effects. The song essentially serves the same function as the opening themes to the 80s action shows Parton was raised on: it's the Go! Team advertising itself, an instant reacquainting device to remind you of what you're tuning into. But thankfully, Parton proves much more willing to change up the script
Team's forthcoming album Rolling Blackouts was officially confirmed. The track, which features vocals by Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, is backed with a cover version of Betty and Karen's 'I'm Not Satisfied' sung by French singer Soko. On 18 December 2014, The Go! Team officially announced their return by uploading a "trailer" for their new album. The trailer features the songs from the short promos that were uploaded earlier in 2014, as well as other new material. On 6 January 2015, the title and track list were announced. The Scene Between was released on March 25, 2015. On 11 October 2017, The Go! team announced the release of Semicircle, their fifth full length LP.
Rolling Blackouts is still very much lots of music for lots of people, and noisy, but there’s a real fluidity to it, and that’s good: it’s great to write marching pop anthems, but it’s better to keep the march going, and for that reason the Go! Team have created a very impressive body of work. It works from top to bottom, to take songs from, and it fits the Go! Team canon with assumed confidence. If Rolling Blackouts, mixtape-gone-album extraordinaire, does nothing else for you, it’ll at least put 2011 fresh in your mind.
Rolling Blackouts (LP, Album, Whi). Rolling Blackouts Instrumentals (CD, Promo).
Right at the end of what is officially the most depressing month of the year comes a shaft of unadulterated sunshine. After the darker, psych-flavoured Proof of Youth, the third album from the Go! Team is a return to what made everyone love their debut, namely a retro-modern mash-up of Northern Soul and old-skool hip-hop. There are two downbeat moments, "Super Triangle" and "Lazy Poltergeist", but other than that the mood is early Saint Etienne meets the Avalanches down the rollerdisco, wearing Sesame St costumes and chewing chocolate flavoured Bubblicious
Only 3 left in stock (more on the way). Rolling Blackouts is epic and bratty, subtle and sweet. From the two-minute opening slammer of ". to the album's title track featuring Bethany Cosentino (Best Coast), it's all restless and relentless energy.
