Naked (Talking Heads album). 1988 studio album by Talking Heads. Naked is the eighth and final studio album by American rock band Talking Heads, released on March 15, 1988 by Sire Records.

Remastered CD/DVD doublepack. CD includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks. DVD features the original album in . Surround Sound and Dolby Stereo, a photo gallery and two bonus videos.

Talking Heads' last proper studio album before their protracted breakup finds them returning to the dynamic that produced their best work, with inspired results. As swan songs go, Naked proves to be a pretty good one: Alternately serious and playful, it once again allows frontman David Byrne to worry about the government, the environment, and the plight of the working man as it frees up the rest of the band to trade instruments and work with guest musicians

And that brings us to 'Naked'. Arriving in 1988, by this point the band were basically just David Byrne, and on some of these songs, it seems that he has lost interest. Following two pop orientated records, 'Naked' is mostly a re-hash of the paranoid world-beat and funk of 'Remain in Light', but done to a poorer scale. There are more instruments here than 'Remain in Light', and it seems like the band were working on a wider scale, but the result is an album that is pretty sub-standard amongst other releases from the band

This album doesn't get the respect it deserves. The Talking Heads never became a parody of themselves, and their final album is the proof of this. "Totally Nude" and of course "Nothing But Flowers" are my personal favorites (and both in my top 10 of their work), but it's hard to say anything here is a bad song or doesn't work. The international world music vibe in these songs permeates - even the lyrics sprang from the music rather than having the music built around the text. Of course their early work is great, but give this a few listens and don't be surprised if it becomes your favorite.
