Wandering Spirit is the third solo album by Mick Jagger. Released in 1993, it was his only solo album release of the 1990s. Following The Rolling Stones' Steel Wheels (1989), Jagger began writing new material for what would become Wandering Spirit. In January 1992, after landing Rick Rubin as co-producer, Jagger recorded the album in Los Angeles over seven months until September 1992, recording simultaneously as Keith Richards was making Main Offender.
Wandering Spirit was his only solo release with the label, with the exception of The Very Best of Mick Jagger – a compilation album containing no new material. Released in February 1993, Wandering Spirit was commercially successful, reaching N. 2 in the UK and N. 1 in the U. .This event inspired him to write "Street Fighting Man" that same year. The title is Latin for wandering man. The album takes a journey through the past and, in Anderson’s words, summarises key historical elements of early civilisation in Britain and seems to prophesy future scenarios too. It includes songs about a Neolithic settler, an Iron Age blacksmith and a monkish chant-style anthem with Latin references.
