The Serpent & The Sphere (LP, Gol + LP, S/Sided, Etch, Gol + 7", Gol + Album). Eisenwald Tonschmiede. I've followed Agalloch for a long time and have always been impressed their eclectic style.
Anderson returns for The Serpent & the Sphere, the fifth Agalloch album. It proves that proves the folly of Faustian Echoes was worthwhile: The Serpent & the Sphere not only delivers the depth and development that have become synonymous with Agalloch but, across nine wonderfully imagined and vividly realized tracks, amplifies those qualities by often turning the amplifiers themselves down. The Serpent & the Sphere includes some charged crescendos, laser-sharp leads and two of Agalloch’s most direct rock ’n’ roll tracks ever. The Serpent & the Sphere might disappoint fans of Agalloch’s more seething output. This is the band’s gentlest and most lucid album to date, and the musical knots that characterized Marrow of the Spirit’s long tracks have been pulled apart like strands of yarn. But Agalloch have never aimed for simply being brutal or destructive.
That is what makes The Serpent & the Sphere the most un-Agalloch album they have ever made. Only Celestial Effigy sounds like a traditional Agalloch tune, with the rest forming some avant-garde mishmash of awkward structures, forgotten crescendos, and painfully dreary riffing. Technicality was not necessary when the songwriting was so masterful, but with The Serpent & the Sphere there is neither technicality.
The Serpent & The Sphere is the fifth studio album by the American metal band Agalloch and sees them take their progressive musical oeuvre to another level, all while maintaining the classic Agalloch sound. It is an album that reveals the band’s darkest, most meticulously crafted, and atmospherically surging work of their seventeen-year career. Captured by legendary producer/engineer Billy Anderson at Cloud City Studios in Portland, Oregon (and mixed by Anderson likewise at Everything Hz), The Serpent & The Sphere represents the most glorious sounding Agalloch album to date
Performer: Agalloch Album: The Serpent & The Sphere Label: Profound Lore Records. Опыт музыкантов сказывается на альбоме достаточно ожидаемым образом. The Serpent & The Sphere" не такой "душевный", прочувствованный, как ранние работы. Зато он безмерно увлекателен с точки зрения музыкальной составляющей.
