Gore is easily Deftones’ most engaging record since White Pony, filled with carefully crafted hooks disguised as bridges and transition. Gore is easily Deftones’ most engaging record since White Pony, filled with carefully crafted hooks disguised as bridges and transition. As with all of their best music, it sounds like the brutal, beautiful result of the band being passionate enough to rip each other’s heads off.

Deftones’ eighth studio album, Gore, is a stunning achievement. Honestly, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Every few years, the Deftones drop a remarkable record, methodically building an empire of cred and acclaim that’s taken them a career to accumulate

Expectations of a new album from any band vary depending on the line of work the band has established over the years. Bands with a distinctive sound and a strong tradition of sticking to their best assets are usually expected to keep up their brand of music on par with previous outings. Bands that rely primarily on songwriting consistency are expected to deliver quality material on a compositional level.

Album · 2016 · 11 Songs. Another key Deftones tenet-bonding aggression with vulnerability-rages throughout an album that captures a band invigorated and reflective. There’s a new strange, godless demon awake inside me sings Chino Moreno on cacophonous opener Prayers, Triangles and it sets the rapturous tone. The juddering Doomed User amps up the drama while Geometric Headdress, (L)mirl and Phantom Bride are piercing examples of the band’s propensity for melody.

I heard a very noisy side B myself. I was wondering if it was a bad pressing or maybe I didn’t clean it well enough or maybe it was warped. The noise is very apparent, like an extremely dirty groove coming from the right side/channel, most noticeable between Geometric Headress and Hearts/Wires. I can definitely hear it during quieter parts and as the side retires. I can also hear the same noise for a little bit between Acid Hologram and Doomed User on Side A. Disappointing. This is another reason why I prefer regular black over colored vinyl. I believe that typically I hear dirtier, nosier colored pressings more often than black vinyl.
  • Vinainl
Amazing sound, my favorite album! Can't stop listen, D-side is killing
  • tref
No issue with my copy - sounds pretty decent with minimal noise/pops etc.. Clearly some people are having issues, but there are good copies out there (and I’m pretty picky!) ... My copy is pretty clean overall.
  • Damdyagab
I am just not impressed with the quality of this pressing. It sounds a bit thin, maybe the 180g would sound better. Also, how are you going to charge almost $30 for a record and not have a download card or CD with it?
  • Peras
Finally opened my copy. Sounds great, no surface noise. The hole on A-B is slightly off centre (or the record is not fully round), you can tell when itś spinning. Not affecting the play. C-D came with a chipped edge... Te packaing looks perfect so it must have happened during production.

Nice album - bit early to give it a full blown review, but I've heard people say it's their best since White Pony....wouldn't go that far (Diamond Eyes was gold) but I am certainly digging it - it's a nice & chilled Deftones & I'm not complaining - little light on riffage but that goes with the chill. Interesting production: guitars are quite thin & the drum sound is way wrong for Abe (too muffled & nowhere near clear enough - hi-hats are miserable) - but a very vocal oriented album. The 180 gram vinyl is nice - no noise or anything like people are complaining about with the white version.
  • Giamah
I totally agree with your opinion on the drums on this album. One of the things I love in a Deftones album is the powerful, and crisp drums, and its just not here.
  • Teonyo
I had the white vinyl and it honestly sounded kind of muddy and noisy on side 2. I upgraded to the black 180gram and it's honestly a vast improvement in clarity. The 180gram sounds nicer than the CD by far.
  • RUsich155
Mine sounds amazing on all sides, great pressing overall. Amazing album!
  • Andronrad
Anyone else have scratchy parts in the lead in tracks?
  • Ber
I wouldn't call this surface noise though. Its not always constant and its more like pops and clicks almost distorted sounds at certain points in songs. I have other colored vinyl 140 gram and they don't sound anywhere near this bad.
  • Qumenalu
140 Gram Colored Vinyl - To be honest I'm not surprised there is excessive surface noise. Very common issue with newer colored vinyl, especially on lighter weights.
  • Clandratha
Yeah pretty disappointed with it got mine pre-ordered from Amazon.
  • Jaiarton
Track A1 sounded terrible, but seems to improve throughout the record. UPDATE: B2 sounds just as bad as the A side. This is is terrible. Did you all buy in store or pre-order?
  • Akisame
Yeah this pressing is really crappy honestly. tons of cracks and pops throughout the whole thing. Thought maybe it was dirty vinyl cleaned it still the same bummer.
  • นℕĨĈტℝ₦
Yes, track 5 sounds horrible for me. Some of the others do too, but Track 5 is definitely the worst.
  • Opilar
Track 5 sounds pretty scratchy. Going to exchange my copy and see if it's the pressing. UPDATE: got a new copy and much better. There was a little static on the 3rd side, but that's it. Too bad, too. Everything else is dead silent between tracks.
  • Perilanim
Anybody else having (almost constant) surface noise on the right channel on Sides B, C, D? I don't hear that on Side A. Or is it only my copy? I know it's neither my cartridge nor needle causing that.
  • Delalbine
Yes, I had the same problem too, you’re not alone!!
  • Braned
Same here- Side A is good, but all other sides have constant scraping noise in the right channel. I tried with elliptical, hyper-elliptical, and micro-ridge stylii on my V15 Type III, and it happened with all stylus profiles. I also have the chip on LP2 as referenced above. Huge bummer since I only listen with headphones... very distracting.
  • Karon
I have an Ortofon 2M Blue myself. Try listening with Headphones if you have. But maybe you'relucky and just got a better and cleaner copy...
  • Tcaruieb
I listened to it yesterday evening and I didn't notice it. I listen to my records with a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon with a Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge, maybe it is not enough "sophisticated" to hear this kind of "subtleties" in the sound.
  • Nilasida
Interesting... My system is absolute rubbish, and I didn't notice any at all.
  • Bad Sunny
Yes, mine does that. It seems to be the worst on the lead in tracks.
  • Vetalol
Gatefold sleeve is pretty weak, soft carton that gets kinda wavy...cheap quality for a limited edition for ~40€ imo :/
  • Kanek
I agree with that, it's hugely overpriced for the quality
  • Usaxma
Amazing record, loose, adventurous, engaging. Their best work since White Pony!
  • Iaiastta
This record is simply amazing. Worth every penny, only wish I had known about it coming out soon enough to pre order the 180g black vinyl. Oh well, sounds amazing even on the 140g white. Buy it.
  • Nuliax
Nothing digital inside the the set. Had to purchase it from iTunes.
  • Jerdodov
This release does not come with a download or cd.
  • OwerSpeed
Does it come with a down load code or a cd or nothing?
