Ryuichi Sakamoto: async Remodels by Nenad Georgievski, published on February 17, 2018. Envisioned as a soundtrack to a non-existent Andrei Tarkovsky film, the album Async showcased his illimitable inventiveness. The music indicated his distinct and very personal, free-styled approach to sounds, moods, shapes and characters that he named as "async. With its flowing, ambient, immersive and sometimes dissonant nature, it blends multiple unusual sounds, colors and moods into abstract paintings full of distinct character.
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Async - Remodels "I actually thought it could be my last one," Ryuichi Sakamoto told me last year about his 16th solo album, 2017's async. I just wanted to put down just what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear sounds of everyday objects-even musical instruments-as things.

Ryuichi Sakamoto's async was among the most acclaimed experimental albums of 2017, as well as one of the veteran composer's most well-received solo works in decades. The original async pieces are inspired by everyday objects and sculptures, and they distill sounds and atmospheres into audio snapshots that might seem alien at first, but become clearer and more resonant on repeated listens.

Last April, Ryuichi Sakamoto put out what was a career-defining record with Async; it was a record that garnered praise for its blunt perspective on the concept of mortality and its creator struggling with the notion of his own potential demise. But most of all, Async was that album; the one you'd never forget: the fabled classic.
