Songs the Lord Taught Us is the first album by the American psychobilly band The Cramps. It was released in May 1980 on . Records in America and Illegal Records in England. Lux Interior – vocals. Poison Ivy Rorschach – guitar. Bryan Gregory – guitar. Booker C – organ on "Fever". Alex Chilton – producer. John Hampton – engineer. Carl Grasso – art direction. The Cramps – sleeve concept, mixing. David Arnoff – photography.

The New York Dolls (1973) predates punk rock by about a year, as the Ramones are considered the pioneers of the genre. However, I think that the foundation was laid with this incredible debut album by the Dolls. Every song on this album is stellar, so I won't name a top three list. Keep in mind that the New York Dolls aren't 100% punk rock, but rather punk rock and glam rock, creating a neat concoction in sound. This is one essential and defining album in music.

Still, the fans love us. Kids discuss us on Twitter. People tattoo Johnny Thunders on their butts. Just tell the Hall of Fame this: If you don't vote for us, you're a bunch of fking Nixons!" Robert Christgau, legendary music critic, has his own theories as to why this insanely influential band hasn't yet been inducted. They made made two great albums that had no commercial impact, then came back and made a few more. 1. "Personality Crisis," The New York Dolls, 1973 - The first song on the first side of the first album is simply one of the best rock 'n' roll songs ever made. From David Johansen's werewolf howls to Johnny Thunders' licks, this song (about losing - or is that finding? - your mind) will get your party started. Even if you're alone. 2. "Looking for a Kiss," The New York Dolls, 1973 - Maybe their mission statement.

Featured New Releases. Continuing the spooked-out and raging snarls of their Gravest Hits EP, the Cramps once again worked with Alex Chilton on the group's full-album debut, Songs the Lord Taught Us. The jacket reads "file under: sacred music," but only if one's definition includes the holy love of rockabilly sex-stomp, something which the Cramps fulfill in spades

Redirected from Actress – "Birth of the New York Dolls"). The New York Dolls were an American hard rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Along with the Velvet Underground and the Stooges, they were one of the first bands of the early punk rock scenes. Although their original line-up fell apart quickly, the band's first two albums-New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974)-became among the most popular cult records in rock
