Rage Against the Machine earned acclaim from disenfranchised fans (and not insignificant derision from critics) for their bombastic, fiercely polemical music, which brewed sloganeering leftist rants against corporate America, cultural imperialism, and government oppression into a Molotov cocktail of punk, hip-hop, and thrash  . Despite all these gigs - including a summer 2011 appearance at . Rising, a festival the band arranged - and word of a new album, no recordings appeared.

Rage Against the Machine is known to many as one of the best alternative rock bands and one of the best rap rock bands. Formed in Los Angeles in the early '90s after Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello and the rest of Rage left their respective, struggling Los Angeles bands, RATM released their self-titled debut and created their own genre.

Fueled by frontman Zack de la Rocha's rap-a-tat mic attack, Rage Against the Machine's debut album is a master class in mashing hip-hop with hard rock. four-piece piles on pummeling rhythms and slicing guitar grooves, topping them with incendiary lyrics that give power back to the people. Key to this manifesto is the rugged "Know Your Enemy," which drafts Tool's Maynard James Keenan for an all-out assault on the American Dream.

So far, Rage Against the Machine released four albums between 1992 and 2000. They split up in October 2000 after Zack de la Rocha decided to leave the band for a solo career, then the rest of the members of the band joined Audioslave (formed by Soundgarden's frontman Chris Cornell). After seven years of absence, Rage Against the Machine reunited in 2007 for a number of shows. Genre: Hip Hop, Rock Style: Alternative Rock, Funk Metal, Conscious, Noise, Hardcore.

Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the group consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist and backing vocalist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello, and drummer Brad Wilk. In 2000, the band released the cover album Renegades. The same year, growing tensions over the direction of the band prompted de la Rocha to quit, leading to the band’s breakup. De la Rocha started a low-key solo career, while the rest of the band formed the rock supergroup Audioslave with Chris Cornell, late, then-former frontman of Soundgarden; Audioslave recorded three albums before disbanding in 2007.
