To the Bone is the fifth studio album by English recording artist Steven Wilson, released on 18 August 2017 on Caroline International. It became Wilson's highest charting album ever, reaching number 3 in the UK Album Chart and the US Billboard Independent Albums chart. In late 2016, Wilson announced that he had returned to the studio to record his fifth album. During the first months of 2017, Wilson released two work-in-progress studio clips to his YouTube channel

1. To The Bone (. 1) 2. Nowhere Now (. 4) 3. Pariah (. 4) 4. The Same Asylum As Before (. 4) 5. Refuge (. 2) 6. Permanating (. 5) 7. Blank Tapes (. 9) 8. People Who Eat Darkness (. 3) 9. Song of I (. 2) 10. Detonation.

To The Bone is Steven Wilson’s 5th studio album, following 2015’s critically acclaimed Hand. Cannot It again features Israeli singer Ninet Tayeb, who contributed vocals to said album and arguably helped give songs such as Routine and Ancestral such a unique and memorable quality. In his own words, Steven described the album: My fifth record is in many ways inspired by the hugely ambitious progressive pop records that I loved in my youth (think Peter Gabriel’s So, Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love, Talk Talk’s Colour of Spring and Tears for Fears‘ Seeds of Love).

To the Bone is the upcoming fifth studio album by English recording artist Steven Wilson, set for release on 18 August 2017 on the independent label Caroline International. It was recorded two-and-a-half years after Hand. Sonically and melodically stunning, To the Bone is a high definition snapshot of the disconcerting times we live i. .

Album · 2017 · 11 Songs. On his fifth solo record, the prolific Steven Wilson builds a monumentally lush collection inspired by his ‘70s and ‘80s art-pop heroes, like Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. Wilson’s cinematic ambition pays off in spades: The title track’s mystical grooves ease you into the album’s layered sound, and Israeli singer Ninet Tayeb provides a showstopping performance amid cosmic pop atmospheres on Pariah. Steady yourself for the guitar solo of Refuge -it’s an epic shred over the song’s spacey crescendo. To the Bone Steven Wilson.

there's no mistaking this for anything but a Steven Wilson record: "Once we've made sense of our world we wanna go fuck up everybody else's because his or her truth doesn't match mine. But this is the problem: truth is individual calculation, which means because we all have different perspectives, there isn't just one single truth, is there?"

Steven Wilson will take over the world of Progressive Rock some day. He is absolutely phenomenal. Period.

Steven Wilson goes pop they say.. But only "Permanating" on this album is a pop song. Although, i have a hard time trying to complete the full listening experience with that song in there. It just does not fit in with the other tracks to be honest, because the rest is prog-gold.As usual, Steven´s album is centred around something he that you probably felt get into you at certain point in life. Terrorism, Religious conflict and all that has filled the media in the last 2 years. So he writes an album about this "People Who Eat Darkness" for instance is about how frightening it can be to have these people with hate and violence around you. He can live across the street from you. He can even be your neighbour. To The Bone deals with a global problem. As always, sounding great.. Despite how and where this album was recorded, namely in Paul Staceys "Studio". If you haven´t seen how Paul operates and how his recording environment is, its quite the opposite of a professional studio where everything is tidy and neat. Paul´s studio is in a house filled to the brim with old and new guitars, drums, thousands of guitar pedals and old vintage synths. Every room in his house is loaded with something.. Is like multiroom garage that haven't been cleaned for years. Pauls console is buried between stacks of papers, coffee cups and walls of rack units. There is no recording booth in this studio. But there is a room loaded with "stuff".. just set up something and record what you need. You can barely fit a drumkit in there..For sure the aftertouches as always added at Wilson´s House. Orchestration recorded somewhere else.I had a hard time digest this album. I heard it once and left it aside. But i caught Steven Wilson on his "To The Bone Tour" and he played material from this album in a way that triggered my senses again. SO.. yes it is a brilliant album. Give it a chance.. a long HARD chance and you will feel Wilson´s remarkable songwriting talent and craftsmanship.Favourite track is Detonation for me. Absolute blast that sounded even better Live.

I am obsessed with this album!!! I never could have believed there would be such a perfect record in 2017. This album takes genres and melts them into a progressive pop masterpiece. Steven Wilson is so f'n cool.

It is incredible how a musician can take care of his releases, especially on vinyl. This pressing sounds incredible. I was thinking if the label change (from KScope to Caroline) would affect in any way his pressings, but this record demonstrates all the contrary: sounds marvellous. And I don't have a high-end setup (Project Debut Carbon DC + Shitty PC Speakers) and I can notice how amazing this record is.
  • Bele
Noise free pressing, with discs in poly lined paper sleeves beside the printed ones (best solution IMHO to satisfy everybody). Impeccable mastering, usual high quality from SW.
  • Steelcaster
Someone sell me the 7" bonus single from this please!
  • Bradeya
I bought 3 copies of this album on vinyl, unfortunately all 3 have an extreme noise. I would not have expected that from perfectionist Steven Wilson. I still have a white copy that does not rustle like that.Hubi

This Deluxe edition looks and feels brilliant. I have only listened to the CD's so far and they sound fantastic. Usually, I just buy the LP and stick with that. But this time I thought I'd treat my self. Very glad I did.
  • Anarus
Is there anyobody here that has the Limited Signed Edition Blu ray sold at shopsuperdeluxe.com ? This comes with an exclusive art card with a Steven Wilson original autograph. Web site tells this edition was limited to only 100 copies. I think there should be a dedicated release entry for this.
  • Ganthisc
I hate the flippers that sell this for unreasonable prices!
  • Garne
Does anybody know another source, apart from Discogs, that says it's a limited edition of 600 copies?
  • Akelevar
The lp itself is not limited, the art card it came with was.
  • Thoginn
I bought it on jpc.de but it didn't mention anything about it.
  • CrazyDemon
Yes: jpc. And if I got it right they're sold now now.
  • Tenius
I am curious about the quantity by this book.......Over the years - from album to album - more and more copies were pressed. But it seems that this book hasn't that much copies as you can not get it anywhere.........Any ideas?
  • Swordsong
Where did you get that info, if I may ask?
  • jorik
3000 copies for Insurgentes limited edition. 6000 copies for all the other limited editions including To The Bone.
  • Umge
don't know how many copies were made. although it stated on the Steven Wilson website it was only available from there and wouldn't be anywhere else.
  • Gadar
What is the difference between Vinyl Bone and Vinyl White version? Thanks so much!
  • Blackstalker
In my opinion, the Bone release is the same as the White edition sold by some indie stores (the front sticker has the same info)
  • Truthcliff
Bone colored vinyl is normally a bit darker than white, basically white with a touch of yellow in it (almost creamy). You can check here Thisquietarmy - Exorcisms for an example.
  • kewdiepie
The White Version called MSG Edition and is only avaible in Mediamarkt & Saturn Electronic Shops (MSG=MediaSaturnGroup)
  • Bev
Judging from the pics of the bone vinyl edition it seems to be the same colour. I have another record described as bone vinyl which has a much more beige hue. I'd assume it's one white pressing for all EU retailers to sell with their own sticker as they see fit.
  • romrom
What's the print of? I got one that was numbered from 1000 on the Burning Shed Store. Wilson's stood by the sea.
  • August
This one shows SW walking in front of a car on a desert highway.
  • Sudert
You have probably got the same version as me, this one: https://www.discogs.com/Steven-Wilson-To-The-Bone/release/10729331
  • Small Black
My print shows Steven walking on a desert road... bought it directly from JPC Germany...
  • Thozius
I've added the missing images, check out the print there.
  • Adorardana
Again a great album and blowing up the speakers in my car! :)
  • Vaua
Feel free to edit/extent information...been lazy and only included information I found on the back of the cover.
  • Saithi
After what Wilson has been doing those past couple years with "The Raven That Refused To Sing", his monumental masterpiece "Hand.Cannot.Erase" and the latest EP "4 1/2", this album is his interpretation of good pop music, based on artists like Peter Gabriel and Talk Talk. This can only be good. There is no other way. Wilson doesn't disappoint. If you don't like it, keep listening, because that just means you haven't gotten it yet.
  • Water
I don't understand Steven from quite a while. Permanating...wtf is it ? The world is over...
