David Ackles - David Ackles album mp3

David Thomas Ackles (February 20, 1937 – March 2, 1999) was an American singer-songwriter, pianist, and child actor. He recorded four albums between 1968 and 1973. deeply informs his recorded output.
David Ackles is the self-titled debut album of American singer-songwriter David Ackles. Elektra Records later reissued it with new cover art under the title The Road to Cairo. Described by music historian Richie Unterberger as Ackles' "most rock-oriented record", it garnered faint praise from Rolling Stone critic Arthur Schmidt, who complained of thin melodies but who nevertheless described Ackles as "one of the best singers I've ever heard".
Ackles combined an early-'70s singer/songwriter sensibility with a theater music background that placed him as much in the tradition of Brecht-Weill and Jacques Brel as Bob Dylan. Not only are his songs fully realized, dramatic statements, but Ackles proves himself a warm, accomplished singer. When this album got no higher than in the charts, Ackles' fans were heartbroken. Decades later, American Gothic remains one of those great albums that never found its audience. It waits to be rediscovered. Elektra Records later reissued it with new cover art under the title The Road to Cairo Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity covered "The Road to Cairo" shortly after the album's.

Although virtually unknown, David Ackles was one of the best singer-songwriters of this era. With his deep voice and somber tone, Ackles was somewhat similar to Leonard Cohen or Scott Walker, but his subject matter, unlike theirs, was middle American. Ackles has also been compared to Randy Newman, which is closer to the mark in terms of subject matter, but while Newman was almost always ironic, Ackles seldom was. It's difficult to imagine them singing each other's songs. After his debut, Ackles would go on to make another album, Subway to the Country, that is in much the same vein as this one, and is similarly stunning. Both of these releases rank among the best singer-songwriter albums of their era, which is another way of saying that they are among the best ever. If you have just stumbled onto Ackles' work, you are in for a treat.
