The Best Years of Our Lives (Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel album). The Best Years of Our Lives is the third studio album by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, released in 1975. It was the first album that featured Harley's name ahead of the band's (the band was previously known simply as Cockney Rebel). The album contains the band's only UK number one, the million-selling "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)". The album was produced by Harley and Alan Parsons.
This song is by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and appears on the album The Psychomodo (1974). I got trapped I was a foolish boyOh, she's so chic, my Helen of TroyShe felt a stab at her heartShe says they're blocking her pathBut I heard a man start to laughWhat is happening to me? Oh she's a Wow! She got that old time feelWith her long blonde hair she was a big, big dealI touched her mind. went insaneI took the 'v' out of vainI'm being tortured againOh what is happening to me?

The album was issued on CD in the UK only by Windsong International Records. The independent label specialised in releasing recordings made for or by BBC Radio One for broadcast on the In Concert radio programme. In 1998, the album was re-issued under a new title: On Air. Both versions used the same close-up photograph of Harley on the front cover . Then vocalist Steve Harley presses the fast-forward button and suddenly it's 1992, and he's on another of those interminable comebacks, mixing old classics with new half-hopers and, though you can kind of see the connection, it's still hard to believe that the verbosity, vision, and doom-laden prophecy of the olden days could ever have become so.

The liner notes were written by Harley in February 1995, and features him recollecting the original Cockney Rebel line-up. The two albums used the same close-up photograph of Harley on their front covers.
