Knickerbocker Holiday is a 1938 musical written by Kurt Weill (music) and Maxwell Anderson (book and lyrics); based loosely on Washington Irving's Father Knickerbocker's Stories about life in 17th-century New Netherland (old New York). The musical numbers include "September Song", now considered a pop standard. Knickerbocker Holiday is both a romantic comedy and a thinly veiled allegory equating the New Deal of Franklin D. Roosevelt with fascism

Knickerbocker Holiday. Knickerbocker Holiday was converted into an independently made movie in 1944, but the producers opted not to use Huston in the critical role of Pieter Stuyvesant and cast veteran actor Charles Coburn instead, an interesting, if odd, choice. Huston made a commercial 78 of "September Song" when the show was still in its first run, but if it hadn't been for this radio adaptation for the Theater Guild of the Air, originally broadcast on December 30, 1945, Huston's definitive performance of this part would be lost.
