Diamonds and Pearls is the 13th studio album by American recording artist Prince, and the first with his new backing band The New Power Generation. It was released on October 1, 1991, by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. The album produced several hit singles, including "Gett Off", "Cream", "Money Don't Matter 2 Night", "Insatiable", and the title track.

Diamonds & Pearls was recorded in December 1989 (in the post-Batman) era) and released in November 1991 as the 4th single and the titular song of his first album with the New Power Generation as his backing band. Rosie Gaines handles the co-vocals. Here’s his entry for Diamonds and Pearls : written as a duet with Rosie Gaines. Prince vowed never 2 performs it with anyone else

Diamonds and Pearls came on the satin heels of a three-year run where critics gleefully scrawled Prince’s eulogy. A bad ecstasy trip allegedly led him to shelve The Black Album in favor of the uneven Lovesexy. The Batman soundtrack reached No. 1, but felt campy and far removed from his late-’80s apex, Sign O the Times. While the sequel to Purple Rain, 1990’s Graffiti Bridge completely bombed, receiving five Golden Raspberry Nominations and yielding a soundtrack that failed to go platinum. The solution was assless pants and obscene funk. If anything, it inaugurated the brief New Power Generation phase of his career, the last in which he was a commercial force. For the first time, Prince found himself chasing trends rather than setting them. On Daddy Pop, he urges people to stop living in the past when they should be living the new, over Teddy Riley drums and wheeling sacral organs.

Diamonds and Pearls" is the title track to Prince and The New Power Generation's 1991 hit album. The song is an upbeat ballad, given a rock edge with guitar and heavy drumming. The song also features the vocals of NPG member Rosie Gaines. The ballad is an expression of love and not lust, as is the theme on some of the other singles from the album. The song was a top 10 hit, reaching number 3 in the US and the top spot on the R&B chart.

Diamonds And Pearls". This will be the day That you will hear me say That I will never run away. I am here for you Love is meant for two Now tell me what u're gonna do. If I gave you diamonds and pearls Would you be a happy boy or a girl If I could I would give you the world But all I can do is just offer you my love. Which one of us is right If we always fight Why can't we just let love decide (Let love decide). Am I the weaker man Because I understand That love must be the master plan (Love is the master plan)
