Paysage d'Hiver - Paysage d'Hiver (1999). Paysage d'Hiver is one of those things that cannot be readily enjoyed by any one or at any time of the day. It requires perseverance, because one would not normally find anything of much interest in it at first listen. The tone of the music actually isn't as dark as Paysage d'Hiver's first two black metal album, leaving more of a feeling of a broad daylight like being on top of a ski resort mountain on a windy day but no clouds. One bummer I get is that there's no night time atmosphere conjured up on this release due to the lighter tone and consistently faster pace of this album. There's no equivalent of "Der Baummann" or "Moloch" on this album which they could have really used instead of "Gefrorener Atem".

Paysage d'Hiver is a one-man atmospheric black metal, dark ambient band from Berne, Switzerland, formed in 1997. The sole member is Tobias Möckl aka "Wintherr", also of Darkspace. The name Paysage d'Hiver is French and translates to "Landscape of Winter"; the songs' lyrics talk overall about winter, darkness, and out of body experiences. Wintherr has cited the Burzum albums "Hvis lyset tar oss" and "Filosofem", among others, as an inspiration for his music.

Final Don’t worry, I’m not pitifully tardy to the Party d’Hiver. I merely bought these to see if the digital files provided here had a higher bit rate than the CDs (as was the case for Schnee III ), so for anyone wondering the same: They don’t.

Paysage d'Hiver is the solo project of Wintherr, having released 10 demos and 2 splits over the course of the bands very productive career. The releases are extremely limited, almost never on CD format, and can be difficult to find (even in mp3 format). The S/T album is no exception, being limited to 300 copies (although a re-release has just been printed in CD format). It is often hard to compare the works of this band as all I have are tape rips of the releases (the tapes sell out at an insane rate)

Don't waste your money on scalpers - Kunsthall recently said they will be reissuing every PdH album on unlimited vinyl. Including this one.
  • Gogal
Heck yes! Any news when? Do you happen to have a link?
  • Bulace
Their website mentions every album except for this one. Where did you find this out?
  • Blackbeard
Still got a brand new copy of the limited one for a reasonable price. It's nice to have both the limited and unlimited version imo.
  • Billy Granson
I wonder how many of these copies actually get played and how many just sit inside shrinkwrap?
  • Granirad
Stop whine and be a man. Recordmarket looks like this today! People goin apeshit about limited editions, dont even listens to them and just stores for showoff.. Bullet to the head imo. Like I said.. I still have this for trade. New and sealed.
  • breakingthesystem
Hello donyou still have this pdh lp? What do you want to trade?
  • ladushka
Really nice collectors Item when you have to be "lucky at the preorder" to get it. Möckls comment on the cds being for "everybody" just lacks the most basic sense of reality if its trustworthy. Thanks for the kick in peoples ass who just dont listen to cds and dont want to start doing so. They still reach crazy prices, though. Will keep my copy sealed and continue to listen to the cassette version. Just for the sake of laughing from time to time about another failed market strategy and feeling pleasently guilty for being directed by my "primal human insticts of cupidity and selfishness". Isn't it just that what Black Metal is all about?
  • Vozuru
Being "lucky at the preorder" is different from ordering 5 copies for 30 euros and reselling them for 150, right ? And no, if you think that Black Metal is all about cupidity and selfishness you are rally on the wrong page. Not to mention that Möckl's music has nothing to do with "ordinary" BM, which could be conceived as spreading such state of mind. All this should be clearly obvious for the people of interest. Now the actual music I consider as art, no matter how ugly and obscure it may be and therefore I enjoy engulfing it. That is the reason why I buy only vinyl. Moreover I would never buy some album just because its wort weight in gold and hang it on my wall like you do.What I am trying to say here is that there is no point to start biting my ass off just because I clearly said that this way of reselling is pure bullshit. There are far more better ways to earn money than this. Now all I have to do is wait 5 years so that the actual price of the record reaches the current level and buy it then, knowing its worth the money. And I am sure that copies for less than 150 will be found, this is not Burzum after all ;)

I have this LP, sealed and all.. was lucky at the preoder.. I will trade it for both "Swans - Filth" and "Swans - Cop" LPs.So if anyone is interested in such a trade. hit me a pm!
  • Beanisend
wintherr did say he intends for the cassette and vinyl versions to be special collectors' items, the CDs are so everyone can hear the music. it kinda sucks, but it's what the artist wants.
  • Yozshujind
Such a nice release raped by greedy traders. However I really doubt that the concept of the repress is to earn some coin and inflate the price as much as possible. I wanted to hear this on vinyl long ago and I guess I never will. You know, if Tobias Möckl himself had put those records for sale here I don't mind paying the 140+ euros. After all he this is his own creation. What I rage against is the primal human instincts of cupidity and selfishness.

shameful display, damn the vinyl bubble and not living closer to a distributor who stocked it
