Live MCMXCIII ("1993" in Roman numerals) is a live album by the Velvet Underground. It was released simultaneously in single and double CD/cassette formats on October 26, 1993 by Sire Records, then DVD format on January 24, 2006.

It's not an embarrassing album or detrimental to the Velvet's legacy, but it's not essential either and doesn't reward repeated listens. It would have been great fun to have attended this show but ultimately this package is worth it only for the historically curious. It's a nostalgia show.
The Velvet Underground (album). The Velvet Underground is the self-titled third studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released in March 1969, it was their first record with Doug Yule, who was a replacement for John Cale. Recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Hollywood, California, the album's sound-consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs-marked a notable shift in style from the band's previous recordings.

Anyone hoping for a hi-fi re-creation of this band's astounding 1966-1968 live shows is pretty much out of luck; Live MCMXCIII is short on exploration of the outer limits of noise, and long on tightly paced songs, with all of the "hits" featured prominently. What's more, Reed often seems to be having a hard time with his vocals, Cale's singing makes him sound like an especially pretentious veteran of the Old Vic, and Morrison should have spent a bit more time wood-shedding before taking the stage for the first time in two decades.
