To Sir, with Love is a 1967 British drama film that deals with social and racial issues in an inner city school. James Clavell (who had written The Children's Story three years prior) directed from his own screenplay, which was based on E. R. Braithwaite's 1959 autobiographical novel of the same name.

To Sir With Love' shot to the very top of the American Singles Chart to give Lulu a unique distinction in International showbusiness. She was the only non- American female singer- ever to have topped the US Singles Chart for five weeks, and at that time only one of five British female singers to have topped the chart. Lulu joined this elite band in 1967 when 'To Sir With Love' - the title song from her debut movie appearance - was released as a single ? and within weeks, it was sitting at the very pinnacle of the US Chart.

Lulu – To Sir With Love. HIT October 21, 1967. Here’s something funny: 1967, in the popular imagination at least, was the year that the entire baby boom generation was figuring out how to question authority. And yet the biggest single of the year was a love song for an authority figure. I’ve never seen James Clavell’s movie To Sir, With Love, but it’s a foundational part of that whole saintly teacher figures out a way to reach tough and wild teenagers mini-genre. On the record, as in the movie, Lulu’s backing band was the post-Wayne Fontana Mindbenders, who’d hit two years earlier with The Game Of Love. And the music, while simple, does a nice job combining the beat-driven excitement of British Invasion rock (which must’ve sounded slightly anachronistic in 1967) with the orchestral sweep of a classic movie-theme weeper.

The soundtrack to 1967's To Sir With Love features the famous title track by Scottish diva Lulu, as well as two alternate versions of the song with different lyrics and arrangements. Lulu also sings "Stealing My Love From Me," and the Mindbenders deliver swinging '60s fun on their two tracks, "Off and Running" and "It's Getting Harder All the Time. An enjoyable nugget of '60s pop culture.
