Zappa Plays Zappa (2007) is the name of both the Dweezil Zappa (guitar/vocals)-led ensemble and the title of this lengthy package. The contents were compiled from a pair of live ZPZ performances - December 21, 2006 in Portland, OR at the Roseland Theater and in Seattle, WA's Paramount Theater the following evening. The concept behind the ZPZ rockin' teenage combo is to present the songs of Dweezil's father - Frank Zappa - in a serious context for new generations of live attendees

King Kong: Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa (or simply King Kong) is an album by French jazz fusion artist Jean-Luc Ponty first released in May 1970 on Liberty Records' World Pacific Records subsidiary label and later released on Blue Note. The album contains numerous selections Zappa had previously recorded either with the Mothers of Invention or under his own name, including: "King Kong", originally included on the Mothers' 1969 album Uncle Meat.

Frank Zappa's bands underwent many changes of members, and Zappa Plays Zappa has done the same. The first changes came in 2009-2010, starting with the departure of Aaron Arntz from the keyboard chair, followed quickly by the replacement of guest vocalist Ray White with the hiring of full-time entalist Ben Thomas. The main set includes songs by the original lineup of The Mothers of Invention including "Who Needs the Peace Corps?" and "What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body?" Trademark disputes.

Dweezil Zappa (born Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa; September 5, 1969) is an American rock guitarist and occasional actor. He is the son of musical composer and performer Frank Zappa. Exposed to the music industry from an early age, Dweezil developed a strong affinity for playing the guitar and producing music. Able to learn directly from guitarists such as Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen, Dweezil released his first single (produced by Eddie Van Halen) at the age of 12.

And yes, this is also the origin and inspiration for the name of what is now Dweezil’s band, Zappa Plays Zappa. And who could do that better.

Zappa Plays Zappa gives a compelling look into the legend’s immense and almost incomparably prolific catalogue with top-notch performances, out of this world production and some of the most overall righteous jams music culture has ever witnessed. To put it simply, Zappa Play’s Zappa brings the goods. From Frank’s early instrumental classics like Peaches En Regalia to his satirical works I’m The Slime and Cosmic Debris, everything any die-hard Zappa fan could ask for is present and in heavy abundance. This massive, two-hour, 2 DVD set chronicles Frank Zappa’s whole career and deploys.

Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American multi instrumentalist musician, composer, and bandleader. His work is characterized by nonconformity, free-form improvisation, sound experiments, musical virtuosity, and satire of American culture
