I have two macaws, one gol Dead Parrot Society: Best of British Comedy 10 out of 10. John Cleese, Graham Chapman, the other members of the Monty Python group and Dudley Moore have participated in the making of this album. In my opinion, Monty Python is the best comedy team ever. The first segment is dedicated to the Dead Parrot Sketch, one of the most humorous comedy numbers ever to be performed. This is probably the main reason why this audio book and other recordings have been labeled with this name

This CD purports to be the "best" of British comedy, but it doesn't really have enough scope. The recordings here are only taken from three seperate sources. Those sources are Amnesty International concerts, Private Eye magazine and The Portsmouth Sinfonia. So a lot of things were left out. I'm not going to bother mentioning what they could have included, because I'm not an expert on British comedy. Anyway, the majority of the material that is included here is funny. Dead Parrot Society brigns together some of the most outstanding British comics. The selections are superb, from a brilliant rendition of Monty Python's "dead parrot" sketch and the classic "penultimate supper" debate between Michelangelo and the Pope to Peter Cook's hilarious "memoirs of a miner". This album is absolutely essential if you are a fan of British comedy. 10 people found this helpful.

Dead Parrot" was voted the top alternative comedy sketch in a Radio Times poll. The Monty Python Live at Drury Lane album features a live version of the sketch, which is slightly different from the TV version. Praline's rant about the deceased parrot includes "He fucking snuffed it!" Also, the sketch ends with the shopkeeper saying that he has a slug that does talk. This version is included in the book and CD set The Best British Stand-Up and Comedy Routines, along with a transcript of the sketch and the Four Yorkshiremen sketch. In his appearance on The Muppet Show, Cleese appears as a pirate attempting to take over a spaceship during a "Pigs In Space" sketch. At the end of the sketch, he demands of the smart-mouthed talking parrot on his shoulder, "Do you want to be an ex-parrot?"

British comedy history is measured in centuries. Shakespeare incorporated many chase scenes and beatings into his comedies, such as in his play The Comedy of Errors. The quarrelsome couple Punch and Judy made their first recorded appearance in Britain in 1662, when Samuel Pepys noted a pretty puppet play being performed in Covent Garden, London. The various episodes of Punch and Judy are performed in the spirit of outrageous comedy - often provoking shocked laughter - and are dominated by the anarchic clowning of Mr. Punch.
