Since Yo La Tengo is forgoing its usual winter run of eight Hanukkah shows in the band's hometown of Hoboken, . an extra-special close-to-home gig was inevitable while touring for its newest release, Popular Songs (Matador). As for the non-Popular songs, Yo La Tengo covered its bases with a mix that well represented its vast back catalog. The sunny pop came from "Mr. Tough," the melancholy lo-fi from "Tears Are in Your Eyes," and the full-on, drawn-out jams from "Blue Line Swinger.
Yo La Tengo 2007 Hanukkah Diary. Hanukkah 2007 began at sundown on December 4. Our first show at Maxwell’s began at 8:30 when Versus took the stage. We closed with Who Are the Mystery Girls. In the back room after the show, Gary Panter’s cd mix faded out, and us stragglers sang one more chorus of Whatsamatta With the Meatball and then went home. We’re all getting a bit tired, but we’re going to collectively channel our inner Jerry Lewis and rock on. See you tonight.
Yo La Tengo was formed in 1984 and has had its core in place since 1992. New Jersey indie rockers Yo La Tengo held their annual Hanukkah shows at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, and feature special guests who sit in with them. Fan videos were taken and are below. The Feelies took part on another Velvet Underground song Sister Ray, as well as a Yo La Tengo song The Room Got Heavy. Real Estate’s Martin Courtney also joined in on Our Way To Fall.
